TAX LEADERSHIP · CANADA

Founding CPA & Head of Tax

Ontario, CanadaFlexible / hybrid / remoteFounding leadership

The opportunity

Cavait is building a modern tax and accounting company designed around strong professional judgment, technology, and a client experience that is far more proactive than the traditional once-a-year model.

We are looking for an experienced CPA who wants to do more than inherit an existing job. You would help establish the professional tax practice with the founder, shape how the work is reviewed and delivered, and build the standards and team that Cavait can scale around.

What you would own

  • Technical leadership across Canadian personal and corporate income tax.
  • Tax planning for individuals, owner-managed businesses, and privately held companies.
  • Corporate tax compliance and advisory, GST/HST, CRA correspondence, reviews, audits, and objections.
  • Professional review standards, engagement practices, quality control, and documentation.
  • Development and mentoring of future tax professionals as the practice grows.
  • Input into product workflows so Cavait technology supports—not weakens—professional judgment.

Who this is for

You may currently be a Tax Manager, Senior Manager, Director, Partner, boutique-firm owner, or an experienced CPA who has wanted a genuine opportunity to build.

Required

  • CPA designation and good standing with the applicable provincial CPA body.
  • Strong Canadian tax experience.
  • Sound technical judgment and the ability to review complex work.
  • Clear communication with clients and other professionals.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and comfort operating in an early-stage environment.

Especially valuable

  • Owner-managed / privately held business experience.
  • Corporate reorganizations, succession, trusts/estates, or cross-border work.
  • CPA Canada In-Depth Tax, MTax, TEP, or comparable advanced tax training.
  • Ontario public-practice experience and familiarity with CPA Ontario requirements.

How the role grows

At the beginning, this is hands-on. You will help make technical decisions, establish the operating model, and contribute directly to important engagements. As Cavait grows, the role should move increasingly toward team leadership, senior review, service-line development, major client relationships, recruiting, and firm strategy.

Compensation

Cavait is early-stage, so this is intentionally positioned as a partnership-oriented founding opportunity rather than a conventional fixed-salary job at launch. The initial structure is expected to be an agreed combination of revenue participation, partnership economics, long-term equity or ownership participation where appropriate and professionally permitted, and future salary as defined business milestones are reached.

The exact structure will be discussed with shortlisted candidates and should reflect experience, responsibility, commitment, contribution, and applicable professional requirements.
